NIGHT SHIFT: MACULAR 2.0 by SIMJAE
After dark, Simjae took the Macular 2.0 set through the city to study how the material responds to artificial light. Exploring the cityscape at ground level, taking note of how the evening lights create shifting patterns in the glass, metal and concrete surroundings.
Simjae is a South Korean creative whose work spans photography, creative direction for global brands, and publishing through his imprint and shop Hugan Books, alongside his work as a Stone Island archivist and consultant. A long-time friend of Standard Format, we're pleased to present this editorial in collaboration with him.
A FABRIC STUDY IN CHANGING LIGHT
Macular 2.0 explores the relationship between technical sportswear and more formal silhouettes, balancing functional details with a considered approach to material and construction.
Featuring complex panelling, comprised of multiple layers of fabric working together to create a contrast in form that changes with movement and shifting light.
Macular is both a system for navigating the city, as well as a reflection of its aesthetics.
